Embedded Application Development based on Smart Devices

Computational intelligence and MUlti-media laboratory (CMU Lab) focuses on the developments of applications embedded in smart devices, e.g., FPGA and tablet PC, smart phones (android, iPhone). Due to the massive growth of smartphones in recent years, many people are interested in the applications of smart devices, in fact, we cannot count the number of applications for iPhones, Android. Currently, the smart devices are relatively improved in terms of processing capability, so, it allows to develop various applications based on computational intelligences. Of course, in terms of theoretical point of view, the development of applications over smart devises is quite interesting. For example, to reduce the computational complexities, we sometimes find the efficient calculus process based on theoretical thought. The following figures shows one one of our contributions, Max-Plus wavelet transformation for image coding, and it is based on max-plus algebra. The max-plus algebra is composed of two mathematical operations, plus and comparison operations (min, or max).

This algebra system has various advantages: 1) Since no floating point calculations are required, the computation speed of MP-Wavelets is very high. 2) Since no multiplication operations are required, the MP-Wavelets are hardware implementation oriented. 3) Since the problem of round-off errors is completely eliminated, MP-Wavelets are suitable for copyright protection (digital watermarking)
